Contribute to Emma’s debate on bailiffs
On 9 January, Emma has secured a debate in Parliament to discuss the oversight of bailiffs, and if you have experienced aggression from bailiffs, or bailiffs breaking the rules, Emma would like to hear from you.
Your experiences could be raised by Emma in her debate.
Ahead of the debate, Emma said:
“Earlier this year a disabled constituent contacted me with a distressing account of bailiffs entering her home with no identification, behaving in an aggressive manner towards her and helping themselves to £240 in cash from her handbag.
“I raised this in Parliament with the Minister of Justice. A full account of the distress caused to my constituent was written about in the Guardian.
“It is shocking that this happened, it has to stop.
“Bailiffs must be properly regulated, and there must be an independent organisation for people to complain to and seek redress from if they break the rules.
“On 9 January I have been granted a Parliamentary debate to demand that the Government stop talking about this and start taking action.
As part of my preparation I wondered if you have heard of this type of thing happening to anyone you know? If yes, would you be prepared to share the details with me, in the strictest confidence of course.
“You can either email me on [email protected] or give my office a call on 01902 397 698.”
