Emma calls for better quality care for the elderly

Emma in Parliament 3

Emma spoke out about the urgent need to ensure high quality care for the elderly. Speaking in a parliamentary debate on Tuesday, Emma pointed out that on-site inspections of care homes by the Care Quality Commission (the care regulator) has fallen dramatically over the last twelve months. She expressed deep concern that quality care may be slipping due to lack of inspections. Read the full debate here.

Emma said, “It is very worrying that the standard of care homes – across the country and even across Wolverhampton – can vary considerably. There needs to be much more consistency in the standard of care available for elderly people in care homes and I am worried that fewer on-site inspections will only make this situation worse. It is also unacceptable that some people still face the prospect of losing their homes to pay for the care they need. We urgently need a sustainable, long-term solution to financing care for the elderly.”
