Emma ‘Flosses for Funding’ with children at Bushbury Hill Primary School
Emma Flosses for Funding with Bushbury Hill Primary school
Emma joined pupils from Bushbury Hill Primary School to dance ‘the floss’. The dance was part of Save Our Schools’s #FlossForFunding campaign to call for more funding for schools from the Chancellor in his budget this Monday (29 October).
Emma said: “This may be a bit of fun, but there is a serious point behind it. Schools across Wolverhampton will have lost millions in funding between 2015 and 2020 – and this is money taken directly out of resources used to teach our children.
“From speaking with Kay Mason, the headteacher at Bushbury Hill, their school is particularly hard hit, losing around £2,000 in funding per pupil. This has left it functioning with fewer teachers and teaching assistants, which is having a direct impact on the education of all pupils.
“Starving schools of funds does not add up, and is having an effect on a school’s ability to undertake building repairs, take on new staff, buy books and support students with special educational needs.
“The Prime Minister says austerity is over. The Chancellor needs to follow up his boss’s words with action to give schools a proper budget, and invest in our children’s future.”
