Emma Reynolds MP appointed to the new Brexit Select Committee
Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East, has been chosen by her fellow Labour MPs as a member of the new cross-party Brexit Select Committee. Emma said, “I am delighted to join this new and important Select Committee. It will play a crucial role in holding the government to account as it negotiates the UK’s exit from the European Union.
“I campaigned to remain in the EU but I accept the result of the referendum and my priority now is to get the best deal for the UK. The process of leaving will be complicated, sensitive and lengthy. In my new role, I will have an opportunity to represent my constituents’ concerns when questioning Ministers, representatives of business, trade unions and other organisations. I will also continue to hold those politicians who campaigned for Leave to account. I will be calling on those in government, like Boris Johnson, to honour their promises, including their commitment to give the NHS an extra £350 million a week.
“I am pleased that my colleague and parliamentary neighbour Pat McFadden, MP for Wolverhampton South East, has also been chosen as a member of the Brexit Committee. It is very rare for a city like Wolverhampton to have two MPs on a committee like this. We will work together to stand up for Wolverhampton.
“I know that many voters have concerns about immigration. At the same time we also need the best possible economic deal with European countries to continue to attract international companies like JLR and UTC which are investing in Wolverhampton and creating jobs. My priority will be to do everything possible to secure the best deal for my constituents, hold the government to account, and mitigate the economic impact of Brexit on those on low and middle incomes.”
