Emma urges government to act on human trafficking and forced marriages

parliament

Emma has asked the government to consider criminalising the appalling practice of forced marriage. Speaking in question time in Parliament, Emma noted that there is broad cross-party support for her taking tougher action to stop prevent people being forced into marriage against their will and provide better support for victims.

In a separate debate this week, Emma repeated her call for the government to act to stop human trafficking. Too often trafficked women are treated as illegal immigrants rather than victims of appalling abuse, and Emma called for a more co-ordinated approach from the government to support victims and tackle the gangs behind this modern form of slavery. You can read the full debate on this subject here.
