Emma Urges More Support for Manufacturing

Emma in Parliament 3

Emma Reynolds, MP for Wolverhampton North East, yesterday spoke in the House of Commons on the need to support manufacturing industries in the Midlands. In a response to the Chancellor’s Budget last week, Emma said that the measures announced by the government would not go far enough in helping to rebalance our economy and reduce the regional disparities within the UK.

Emma said, “When I stood for election the economy was growing and unemployment was falling. Now unemployment is rising and growth has been downgraded three times in just a few months. The story of last week’s Budget is that the Chancellor’s plan to eliminate the deficit simply isn’t working.

I am concerned that the Chancellor does not seem interested in addressing the imbalances that still exist in our economy. We have a proud history of making things in Britain, and of we are to build a lasting and sustainable recovery, we must support our manufacturing industries and regeneration in traditional industrial heartlands like the Black Country.”
