Emma welcomes progress on new train station for Wolverhampton
Emma has welcomed the progress towards Wolverhampton’s new railway station.
Last week, the Interchange partnership submitted plans to demolish the existing station and replace it with a new one, as part of a £120 million interchange project that also includes a Metro line extension that will terminate at the station.
The new station will have a larger, open concourse, a new ticket office, additional ticket barriers, much improved retail and café facilities, and a far more efficient passenger drop off and pick up arrangement.
Work is expected to begin next year, after the extension and refurbishment of the railway station car park, currently due to be finished by Christmas 2016.
Emma said, “I am delighted that progress is being made on the interchange project at Wolverhampton Station, and that a formal plan is now in place as to how the rebuild will be achieved.”
“The station redevelopment will greatly benefit Wolverhampton, and has the potential to act as a spur for redevelopment in the city centre. Investment in the Wolverhampton Interchange is already bringing companies and jobs to Wolverhampton, with the new i10 office and retail block near the station already a great success.
“The new train station will be the first thing many visitors see when they arrive in Wolverhampton and so will help to show that our city is open for business.
“I’ve been campaigning for a new train station since I was first elected in 2010, and I’m very pleased at the progress that has been made towards giving Wolverhampton the train station it deserves.”
