The Shadow Housing Minister, Emma Reynolds MP, has visited a David Wilson Homes development in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton.Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East, took a tour of the site, which is called Woodthorne and is a flagship development for the luxury homebuilder, and tried her hand at some of the construction trades. She met with company bosses and construction workers to get a first-hand view of the industry.

Located on Wergs Road, Woodthorne, will provide 58 new homes as well as underpinning more than 100 jobs for local people. The site is putting back to good use the former ADAS laboratory and preserving in history its original identity as the home of Henry Heartly Fowler, Wolverhampton’s first Lord Lieutenant.

Following her visit, Emma said, “It was a great pleasure to visit the new homes and development on the Woodthorne site that David Wilson Homes is building. It is important that there is a range of new housing in our city.

“As well as visiting the two show homes, the site manager and his team kindly gave me a quick lesson in brick-laying and driving a digger. The former Ministry of Agriculture and Food site has been transformed into a very pleasant and green housing development. I was impressed with the landscaping that David Wilson Homes have already done to create an attractive place for new homes.

“Nationwide, we are building less than half the number of homes we need to keep up with demand. A Labour government will build 200,000 homes a year by 2020.”

John Fitzgerald, Managing Director for David Wilson Homes Mercia added, “We were delighted to welcome Emma to Woodthorne. This is an important regeneration project for us which demonstrates how development of this kind can both enhance and give something back to the local community.”

Less than three miles from Wolverhampton and a commutable distance from Birmingham, Woodthorne is the perfect place for professionals and families alike to live in peaceful surroundings and within distance of a major city.

The development when complete, will comprise 46, four and five bedroom detached houses and 12 luxury two bedroom apartments, all of which have been designed with deep proportioned windows, stone features and steeply pitched gables to be sympathetic to the local surroundings.
