Wednesfield war memorial attacked by vandals to be repaired

war memorial

The Wednesfield war memorial that was attacked by vandals back in May will be repaired in time for the remembrance service on Sunday 13 November.  Wolverhampton City Council have confirmed that the memorial which features the names of local soldiers killed in the first and second world wars will be replaced by 4 November.

A campaign was run by Emma Reynolds MP and Phil Bateman MBE to alert families who had lost loved ones during the war and were not on the original memorial to come forward.

Emma Reynolds MP said, “After such a mindless act of vandalism to the memorial, I am pleased to say that it will be replaced in time for the remembrance service held in Wednesfield in November. The plaques will now be covered by a special chemical that will protect it from any future vandalism attempts.  I know this will be a relief to those families who come together in Wednesfield every year for the service.”
