Wednesfield High School has benefited from a multi-million pound transformation to boost learning for young people from the Building Schools for the Future programme.Emma officially opened the new school at a launch event with pupils, staff, governors, parents and partners involved in the refurbishment and rebuild.

The final phase of works for the school in Lichfield Road was unveiled to the public on Thursday 9 May and the event featured music from the Wednesfield School Choir, presentations and a tour of the school.

Wednesfield High has benefited from £15million investment and was one of the seven schools that were part of the first phase of Wolverhampton’s £270 million Building Schools for the Future Programme. The first two phases of the school works were completed in September last year but this event marked the overall completion of the refurbishment.

The final phase saw the main teaching block, which will feature Maths, English and Food Technology, completed as well as the new community facilities such as the sports hall, multi-use games area, changing rooms and parking being opened to the public. Other notable new features of the transformed school, which caters for around 900 pupils, was its brand new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) block.

Emma Reynolds MP said: “I have been visiting Wednesfield High School since before my election. I was delighted to officially open the new school after seeing the fantastic transformation that it has gone through.”

“It’s now a magnificent learning environment with many new, innovative and state of the art facilities. The pupils and staff are really proud of their new school and I hope that it will continue to transform the teaching and learning there and to raise the aspirations of every single pupil at the school.”
