Emma opens new £2.2million grassroots sports facilities
Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East has opened two state-of-the-art sports facilities at Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Sports College and at a site adjacent to Aldersley High School. Both sites were funded with grants from the Premier League, FA Facilities Fund and Sport England.
The artificial grass pitch at Our Lady and St Chad was developed to replace green space lost following the successful completion of Wolverhampton’s Building Schools for the Future programme. The pitches are available all year round for football and other sports and are also being made available for the local community at nights and weekends.
The 26 acre site at Barnhurst Lane features 9 grass football pitches and a walking track that has several murals embedded in its surface showing the history of the site and local area.
Emma said: “These are fantastic, impressive and modern facilities and I pay tribute to everybody involved in bringing these projects to fruition. These new sports facilities provide school children and the local community with the opportunity to play different sports. I was delighted to hear that local school children were involved in some of the design features. It’s been shown that if a young person shows promise at sport and it also helps them with their academic work.
“The sites really add value to the schools and local community and I was pleased to be able to officially open them.”
