Emma questions the government over their handling of the Carillion collapse
Monday’s announcement that Carillion has entered liquidation is deeply concerning to Carillion’s 20,000 UK employees and thousands of companies in their supply chain. Emma said, “It is particularly concerning to the 400 people who work at Carillion HQ in Wolverhampton, their families and our city.
“I spoke to the Business Minister on Monday morning to urge the government to do what it can to support Carillion employees and have raised my concerns in the House of Commons.
“Both the government and the leadership of the company have serious questions to answer. As I said in Parliament on Monday, it is wrong and immoral that senior executives in the company have been paid huge sums of money while regular employees are facing an uncertain future. It is my understanding that Carillion’s directors changed the rules to protect their salaries and bonuses from being clawed back. This is simply unacceptable.
“The Labour party has also been asking the government why it did not act sooner when Carillion first issued a profit warning in July. The government must be clear about what it knew about Carillion’s financial difficulties and when it first found out.
“I am seeking an early meeting with the Trade Union and representatives of the workforce. I will be working alongside the other Wolverhampton MPs, the City Council, and the Local Enterprise Partnership to do all that we can to support Carillion employees.
“If anyone has any concerns about Carillion and wants to discuss this matter with me please ring 01902 397698 or email me at ”
