Emma Reynolds MP campaigns to highlight the “Cost of Cameron”
On Saturday morning last weekend, I was out campaigning in Queen Square with Rob Marris, Labour’s candidate for Wolverhampton South West, to highlight the cost of David Cameron’s government to people across Wolverhampton on “Cost of Cameron Day”.This Tory-led government is costing families in Wolverhampton dearly. They are now on average £1,600 worse off than when he came to power. Energy costs are up by almost £300, with more rises in the pipeline. Rents are up by over £900 a year and childcare costs have risen on average by over £300 in a year. Rail fares have just leapt by 20 per cent.
Rob and I were talking to voters to highlight Labour’s positive plans to freeze energy prices, increase the number of homes being built and give families more support with their childcare. That is the way to solve the cost of living crisis, rather than to cut taxes for millionaires and cut public services for everyone else.
While David Cameron and George Osborne may try to claim their plan is working, people in Wolverhampton know it’s not working for us.
The truth is that this government has pushed up the cost of living and left people struggling to cope.
