Emma Reynolds MP, congratulates JLR on achieving record profits and heralds it as great news for Wolverhampton
Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East and Shadow Housing Minister, has congratulated Jaguar Land Rover on achieving record profits. The company, bought by India’s Tata Motors in 2008, announced yesterday that it sold a record 425,006 vehicles in the 2013 calendar year, up 19 per cent on 2012. Much of that growth was fuelled by a strong performance in China and other foreign markets.
Earlier this month, Jaguar Land Rover started recruiting for its new engine factory on the edge of Wolverhampton.
Emma said, “Yesterday’s announcement by JLR that sales are at a record high, up 19 per cent on last year, is fantastic news for Wolverhampton and a big shot in the arm for our city. Both Jaguar and Land Rover are iconic British brands and this success follows the great news that up to 1,400 jobs1 will be created alongside an investment of £500 million in the new state-of-the-art engine factory at the i54 business park on the edge of Wolverhampton. The factory will further create the potential for thousands more jobs in the supply chain.
“Everyone across Wolverhampton will be delighted at what JLR has achieved and the investment it is bringing to the city. It’s testament to the hard work, dedication and talent of JLR’s employees. I want to praise everyone, the management, the workers, and the unions who have worked so well together to achieve such amazing success.”
