Wolverhampton North East MP and Shadow Housing Minister Emma Reynolds, has presented an award on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support to Wolverhampton resident Sylvia Nixon in recognition of 10 years of fundraising on behalf of the charity.Emma presented Sylvia with the award during an event hosted by Macmillan at Wednesfield Community Centre aimed at raising awareness of cancer and the advice and support that is available.
Linda Turner, Macmillan Coordinator said: “Although the event was primarily aimed at helping people to be better informed of the support that’s available, it’s always fantastic to have the opportunity to recognise the work of our volunteers and it was great that Emma was able to present the award to Sylvia.”
Sylvia Nixon said: “I had no idea I had been nominated and it was a wonderful surprise when Emma got up to present the award to me. It’s been a real pleasure supporting Macmillan over the years and they can never be praised enough for all the great work they do.”
Emma said: “I attend the Macmillan coffee mornings that Sylvia Nixon organises at Wednesfield Community centre every year. After the last event in September, I decided to write to Macmillan to encourage them to give Sylvia recognition for her tireless work. I am delighted that Macmillan have recognised her contribution with this award.
“Sylvia is known to many in Wednesfield for her tireless work in the community and the work of Macmillan is only possible through the generosity of people and the commitment of people like Sylvia. I pay tribute to Sylvia and the many thousands of volunteers and supporters who dedicate their time to fundraising to helping those suffering from cancer.”
