Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East and Shadow Housing Minister Emma Reynolds has teamed up with a West Midlands law firm and local schools and businesses to offer young people in Wolverhampton North East the chance to find out more about job opportunities in the local area.Emma has organised a careers fair with Irwin Mitchell and Mary Keelan, Head teacher of Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Sports College. The event will take place in Wolverhampton on Friday 27 June between 10am and 3pm at Our Lady & St Chad’s site on Old Fallings Lane.

Emma said: “I am looking forward to meeting with students to showcase some of the opportunities available to them in Wolverhampton. I’m really pleased that we will have companies and organisations there from all sectors of the economy, ranging from advanced manufacturing and engineering to construction, law and accounting.

“Jaguar Land Rover will be there to give students an insight into the car industry and precision engineering. JLR’s new engine factory on the i54 is providing employment opportunities to young people and the investment is a fantastic shot in the arm for the local economy. Being Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Aerospace in Westminster, I’m delighted that UTC Aerospace Systems, a major player in the aerospace industry, will also be present to showcase what a career in aerospace entails.

“Very often careers advice fails to inspire and encourage young people. I hope that Friday’s Careers Fair will give students a greater insight into different employers, professions and workplaces. I’m sure with such a variety on offer for the students to experience, there will be something to inspire everyone.”

Luke Daniels, a Partner and medical law expert at Irwin Mitchell’s Birmingham office, said: “We are incredibly pleased to be a part of this Careers Fair and to hopefully help many young people to choose their future careers, as well as give the students hints and tips about how to achieve their goals.

“I hope that through the Careers Fair we can inspire young people, and get them to think more carefully about their future and the many and varied companies and organisations who will be represented should help them to do that.”

Mary Keelan, Head teacher of Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Sports College, said: “The students at the college are really looking forward to the Careers Fair and to see what employment opportunities are available so they can take the next step into further education or into the workplace.”
