Emma warns of less money for NHS if Britain votes to leave the EU
Emma has warned that a vote to leave the European Union will lead to less money being available for the NHS because of the economic shock that would result.
Figures from the Bank of England and the International Monetary fund show that the UK is likely to enter into recession because of the huge disruption and uncertainty a vote to leave would cause to our economy. The Treasury has said that a vote to leave could see the British economy shrink by as much as 6%. This would mean any money that the government saved by not contributing to the EU would be more than outweighed by a significant fall in the tax revenue it takes.
Emma said, “Leaving will mean less money for the NHS not more. A vote to leave will not make our economy stronger. Instead it is likely to prove hugely disruptive as the Bank of England and every other independent economy study has concluded.
“These warnings have been given extra force by a new report by the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS). According to the report, the UK could face an extra two years of austerity measures if it votes to leave the EU. This report shows that outside the EU, ministers could make even deeper cuts, or extend them. This would mean further cuts to public services in Wolverhampton like our health service.
“Those who are saying that a vote to leave will help the NHS are offering a false prospectus to people. If our economy shrinks there will be less money for the health service. The NHS will see none of the money that the Leave campaign claim. Britain is stronger, safer and better off in the European Union, and the truth is our NHS is stronger as a result too.”
