Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East and Shadow Housing Minister, has welcomed the news that the City Council has approved plans to extend the car park at Wolverhampton train station. The Council has granted planning permission to plans to extend the multi-storey car park to more than double the number of parking spaces. An additional 520 parking spaces will take the overall capacity of the car park to more than 900. Parking for cycles, motorcycles and taxis will also be provided as part of the extension to the existing multi-storey and the creation of a brand new entrance off Cornhill.

Emma said, “Since my election nearly five years ago, I have been campaigning for a new train station in Wolverhampton. I believe that a new station is vital, not only for regular commuters but also for the wider regeneration of the city centre.

“I welcome the recently agreed proposals for additional car parking spaces, which will be crucial to plans for a new train station. The current multi-storey car park is often full and so the new spaces are sorely needed.

“However, it is also important that the government honour the commitments it has made to ensure that Wolverhampton gets a new train station. I have written to the Transport Secretary on a number of occasions to press him to act.”
