Keep Wednesfield Together
Wolverhampton North East MP, Emma Reynolds, former MP, Ken Purchase, Wednesfield North Councillors Phil Bateman MBE and Rita Potter along with Wednesfield South Councillors Bhupinder Gakhal and Paula Brookfield held another very successful street stall on Saturday 8 December as a follow on from the one held on Wednesfield High Street in November to talk to people about the new Boundary Commission proposals.
They were overwhelmed by the response that they got from local residents who oppose the proposals to move the Council wards of Wednesfield North and Wednesfield South into a new constituency of Walsall West.
Emma Reynolds MP said: “People are up in arms about the Boundary Commission proposals to move the Council wards of Wednesfield North and Wednesfield South into a new constituency of Walsall West.”
“The response that we got from the public again today should leave the Boundary Commission in no doubt that local residents are opposed to these plans. We will continue to collect signatures for the petition and submit them to the Boundary Commission before 10 December deadline.
“ Approximately 1500 local residents have now signed our petition. It is clear that they feel strongly that they want to “Keep Wednesfield Together” and to remain part of Wolverhampton.”

I’m all for the boundary commission reviewing the areas covered by each constituency, but not at the expense of cutting communities in half. I don’t think I’d even bother voting if this happened – I don’t live in Walsall and don’t think a Walsall MP – of whatever party – would represent me, so what would be the point?
Change the boundaries and disenfranchise half of Wednesfield? I think not!
