On Saturday Emma attended the 20th anniversary celebration for the Ashmore Park Community Association at The Hub in Ashmore Park.

As part of the celebrations the first Wolverhampton Civic Society Blue Plaque in Wednesfield was unveiled. The plaque commemorates the Ashmore Park colliery which stood on the site of The Hub. The plaque was unveiled by Councillor for Wednesfield North, Phil Bateman MBE. Present for the unveiling alongside Emma and Phil were Councillor Mary Bateman and the chair of the Chairman of APCA Ann Wood.

The celebrations also included arts and crafts, a dance display and a photo exhibition. Lots of people attended The Hub to take part over the course of the day.

Speaking after the celebrations, Emma said: “I was delighted to attend the 20th anniversary celebrations for the Ashmore Park Community Association. The Association does an outstanding job organising events for the local community and it could not operate without the many volunteers who generously give up their own free time. It is thanks to their efforts that celebrations like the one on Saturday are able to take place.

“One of the highlights of the day was the unveiling of a new Blue Plaque, the first of its kind in Wednesfield by Councillor Phil Bateman to mark the fact that The Hub is built on the site of the Ashmore Park colliery. For many years before the Ashmore Park estate was built coal was mined here.”
