Emma calls on government to act over rising unemployment in Wolverhampton North East
Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East is calling on government to act over rising unemployment in Wolverhampton North East. Responding to the latest unemployment figures for Wolverhampton and the UK, Emma criticised the Conservative government for doing nothing to address the recent rise in unemployment in Wolverhampton.
Emma said, “Here in my constituency, long term unemployment and youth unemployment have both increased. I am concerned by these recent rises. This government is failing to help people get back into work. That is bad for those individuals who are looking to work and it is not good for our local neighbourhoods.
“The government needs to set out what targeted steps it will take to help people in Wolverhampton North East back into work. It is not good enough to talk about previous unemployment figures or figures from other parts of the country, when unemployment in Wolverhampton North East is still too high. This Tory government is clearly failing to create jobs and growth equally across the country. I am also concerned by the national rise in unemployment, with our economy slowing down, this highlights the need to secure a Brexit deal which prioritises jobs and living standards.”
What do you think about the latest unemployment figures? Do you think the government should be doing more to tackle the issue?
