Emma is calling on everyone not yet registered to vote to register before it is too late. The deadline is midnight tonight to ensure you can vote in the EU Referendum.

Hundreds of thousands of people have signed up in the last few days, but many millions more have yet to register. The process takes just five minutes online to guarantee a say in the first referendum on the EU since 1975, 41 years ago.

Emma said, “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to have a direct say on our EU membership. I urge everyone in Wolverhampton to register to vote and exercise their democratic right.

“The Labour party is calling on people to vote to remain. A vote to leave is simply not a risk worth taking. Every independent economic forecast has predicted that it would cause great damage to our economy. It would make families on low and middle incomes in Wolverhampton worse off and would create a huge black hole in our public finances, meaning less money for our local schools and the NHS.

“Over 150,000 people under 35 have registered to vote since Monday, but this is still not enough as this referendum will have a greater effect on young people and their futures than for anyone else.

“The Electoral Commission has been working with Twitter to spread the hashtag #EuRefReady, and it’s great to see the level of engagement this and other voter registration campaigns have created.

“The way that we register to vote changed last year. Anyone who wants to join the register can go online and do so at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. You can also contact Wolverhampton electoral services on 01902 551177 for more information.”
