Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East, has challenged the government to keep its promises on infrastructure.Speaking in parliament on Tuesday, Emma asked “Since the government took office, tens of thousands of jobs have been lost in the construction sector. I am deeply concerned that more than 80% of the Treasury’s infrastructure projects have not yet even started. Can the minister explain to the House why there has been such a delay and what he will do to kick-start the process?”

Speaking afterwards, Emma said “I was shocked to learn that the government has not started over 80% of the infrastructure projects it has so far announced. The minister could not explain why this record is so appalling. These projects are vital to cities in the West Midlands where unemployment is stubbornly high and any talk of recovery is premature. I am also disappointed that Wolverhampton has not been earmarked for an infrastructure project even though 1 in 4 families in the city have no one in work. More construction projects would boost jobs in the city. The government’s lack of action and misdirected priorities shows how complacent they are and explains why there has not been an economic recovery for ordinary people.”
