Emma Reynolds MP responds to budget announcement
Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East, Emma Reynolds MP yesterday responded to the Chancellor’s budget announcement during a debate in Parliament. On the same day as new figures showed that unemployment rose in Wolverhampton North East in the first two months of the year, Emma spoke of her concern that the Government’s economic policies are failing her constituents.
In Parliament, Emma said:
“I remain deeply concerned about the local economy in Wolverhampton. The Government has failed to tackle the crisis in living standards and whilst I welcome some of the budget’s announcements (for example the cancellation of the beer duty escalator and of the fuel duty increase) this is simply too little, too late. The Chancellor is giving with one hand and taking much more with the other.
What makes the Government’s failure worse is that they targeting the cuts at people on low and middle incomes across Wolverhampton whilst giving a £100,000 tax cut for 13,000 millionaires from 1 April this year.”
